Dr. Murray R. Moffatt

Dr. Murray R. Moffatt is one of Manitoba’s most beloved and talented veterinarians. His interest in veterinary medicine dates back to his childhood years in Saskatchewan, where he helped his father raise Labrador Retrievers. Combining a prairie boy’s hard-working ethic, a love for animals and keen business sense, Dr. Moffatt started his own business venture with his older brother, raising horses and caring for livestock. He was nine years old, his brother, 19.

Dr. Moffatt went on to graduate with distinction from Saskatoon’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981, practicing in Weyburn before moving to Winnipeg in 1984. Just four years after his arrival in Winnipeg, Dr. Moffatt established the Transcona Veterinary Hospital, starting a legacy that has helped thousands of families and their pets.

With an affinity toward advanced surgery, Dr. Moffatt has become especially well known for conducting innovative knee surgery on dogs, known as TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy). He is one of a select few doctors in western Canada who do the surgery. “If you were to go to the dog park and say, ‘my dog’s got a sore knee, where should I go to fix it?' We would be the place to go,” says Dr. Moffatt. As Transcona Veterinary Hospital is a full-service clinic, Dr. Moffatt expertly deals with any task put his way, from advanced surgical challenges to routine broken toenails!
