Surgical Services

General surgery

From spays and neuters to skin lacerations, Transcona Veterinary Hospital staff work diligently to restore and maintain your pet’s health. Our certified, sterile operating room allows us to perform both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery – with
state-of-the-art tools that monitor your pet’s heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature and blood oxygen levels.

Clients are welcome to watch their pet’s surgery via the comfort of our observation room.

Orthopedic surgery

Dogs and cats get orthopedic injuries just like we do. Isn’t it good news then that almost any surgery that can be performed in human medicine has a corresponding animal procedure for your pet! Veterinary medicine has improved drastically over the years as the human-animal bond has increased. We work hard to repair everything from fractures and joint injuries, to torn cruciate ligaments and luxating patellas. Our talented staff members strive for excellent treatment, from the initial consultation to the recovery and rehabilitation phase.

TVH Surgical ServicesTPLO surgery

Transcona Veterinary Hospital has become well-known as a centre of excellence when it comes to providing ground-breaking knee surgery on dogs, known as TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy). In fact, we are one of the only facilities in the Canadian Prairies who do the surgery – while clients are often referred to us by other vet clinics. We do approximately 160 TPLO surgeries per year in our hospital, restoring quality of life and mobility for many large breed dogs.

Ophthalmology

We treat a variety of eye-related conditions ranging from uveitis, glaucoma and corneal ulcers, to cherry eyes and entropion (a condition where the eyelid folds inward). We often refer to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for ocular surgery, which can often save a pet’s eye from further damage or removal. If your pet is squinting excessively, or has another eye-related issue, our staff is skilled at diagnosing and treating a variety of ailments.
